Problems reading. The major body of musicians are drop outs. They had no interest in reading, writing, or math. So, now they want to enter the business world as stone cold idiots. I was one. At 34 I earned my G.E.D. and took 2 and 1/2 years of college in Business Administration. Thus, in my introduction letters to bands I have a greeting, a body stating my offer and information on where to get more information. Then, in closing, a thank you, and my signature. Very few responses come back in the same professional style. Even some of the "professional" businesses fail in that aspect. Problems understanding.
Do you know the best written responses come from Asian, Arab, and small European countries! What's up with that America?
Problems following instructions
. As stated above, some would rather waste my time, wanting me to hold their hand through the introduction process.I don't have time for that. That is why I have taken the time to include different blogs with ALL the information a person needs to make a intellegent decision on that subject.
Problems investigating.
Again, as stated above, instead of investigating for themselves, people make "ass"umptions. Almost all inquiries that I receive, I return them to the introduction letter or the blogs. Since they demand to be hand held, I never hear from them again. These are not the kind of people I want to work with anyway.Problems of disipline.
Just as I once could not disipline myself to be responsible for myself, many of the bands who contact me are the same way. Refusing to follow the introduction letter's instructions. Refusing to read the blogs. They call this THE MUSIC BUSINESS baby.If you refuse to read and follow instructions, how are you going to understand a contract? It's no wonder why so many of you are getting ripped off. You don't know what you're signing!!
Bottomline, eductate yourself. Learn how to read and understand the written word. Learn how to write a letter. Learn how to communicate without being profane in the professional arena. Learn some simple math.
It's not that hard boys and girls. It just takes disipline. Conduct yourself as a professional and people will take you seriously. Conduct yourself as a fool and you will just be a joke. Turning positions, who would you rather work with?
