Formed in Bordeaux in 2005, WARATTAH is on a steady climb to success. Their demo has earned them critical acclaims in various magazines, and their video and documentary are also being viewed around the world. Here's a interview with drummer XAV.
How long have you been together? A little more than 2 years.
How did you get together? Khris (the drummer), knew Cyril since the high school, where they had a band together. Khris had gotten information at the “CIAM”, a school of music of Bordeaux which gave him my contact. Denis, an excellent guitarist, was suggested to us for leads.
How was the writing process for this release? Khris composes and writes all, alone at his home. He programs the other instruments on his computer and sends the files to us. We work the songs at our home and let us set up the songs into rehearsals. Everyone in the band knows to read music scores! (Jesse:)That's amazing. Most of us (musicians) can barely read a contract much less notes!
What kind of response are you getting from:
A. fans The fans like what we do. We are very touched when we meet them in our concerts because they are sincere and full with enthusiasm, and always motivate us.
B. media "Distortion", has been very well reviewed by the press or on the Web! We were several times elected "demo of the month" and more! The video clip “Fits of Rage” have been also a very good promotion for us!
What makes your music unique? The fact that the media have not been able to define our style, which leads us to believe we offer a little bit of originality in what we play. That is based on the fact that the we all listen to very wide variety of styles.
